Visual Effects Society To Present Visionary Award To J.J. Abrams

Writer/Director/Producer J.J. Abrams will receive the Visionary Award at the 13th annual VES Awards to be presented February 4, 2015 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The Visionary Award recognizes an individual who has uniquely and consistently employed the art and science of visual effects to foster imagination and ignite future discoveries by way of artistry, invention and groundbreaking work.  Abrams will join a impressive list of past Visionary award winners including James Cameron, Christopher Nolan and last year's winner, Alfonso Cuaron.

A two-time Emmy Award winner, Abrams is the founder and president of Bad Robot Productions.  In partnership with Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. Studios, Bad Robot has produced both films, including "Cloverfiel", "Star Trek", "Super 8", "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" and "Star Trek: Into Darkness"  and television series, including "Alias", "Lost", "Fringe" and "Person of Interest."

Upon learning that he would be receiving this honor in February, Abrams released the following statement to the Visual Affects Society:
